Bitcoin vs. S and P 500: BTC Beats SPX, Why?

In a crazy market, Bitcoin is flexing its muscles while the S&P 500 seems a bit tired. As of April 16, 2025, Bitcoin (BTC) has shot up about 31% over the past year, while the S&P 500 (SPX) has only managed a modest 8% gain.

Let’s Break It Down

The S&P 500 has had a rocky ride. After some solid growth early in 2025, it hit a rough patch in March, falling below its 20-day and 50-day moving averages. It’s showing some signs of bouncing back, but it’s still under those crucial numbers, which has traders on edge.

On the other hand, Bitcoin has had quite the wild ride! After a turbulent 2024, it went on a huge rally in late Q4, jumping over 60% at one point. It cooled off a bit in Q1 2025, but it’s still up more than 30% this year and is definitely outpacing the stocks.

So, What’s Going On?

The crypto crowd thinks it’s the usual story—buzz around the halving cycle, more institutional interest, and general global uncertainty pushing folks toward decentralized assets. Meanwhile, the stock market is grappling with worries about inflation, interest rates, and international stability, which is keeping spirits low.

Bitcoin is doing its own thing while the S&P 500 tries to regain its footing. With Bitcoin holding strong above 30% and stocks stuck in a sideways shuffle, everyone’s watching to see which asset will make the next big move.
